Qualified Lawyers Transfer Test (QLTT)

Courses : QLTT & NY Bar Review Course : Qualified Lawyers Transfer Test (QLTT) :

QLTT
The QLTT is the conversion test that enables lawyers for certain other jurisdictions and UK barristers to qualify as solicitors in England and Wales.

We are currently a Solicitors Regulation Authority accredited testing organisation. The Test covers 4 main subject areas (known as Heads). Before sitting the Test, all candidates need to apply to the Solicitors Regulation Authority for a Certificate of Eligibility. This will state which Head(s) a candidate needs to sit and any requirement for further training. Please ask us for further details.

Click on the Dates/Venues button on the left to see upcoming Test dates and venues. In addition to the Test itself, we also offer preparatory distance-learning materials and revision days for each Head.

Once you have qualified through the QLTT, your next compulsory course will be Management Course Stage 1. Please click here for more information on this.

QLTS (Qualified Lawyers Transfer Scheme)
On the 1 September 2010, the Qualified Lawyers Transfer Regulations (QLTR) and Qualified Lawyers Transfer Test (QLTT) will be replaced by the Qualified Lawyers Transfer Scheme (QLTS). From this date, only application forms for QLTS certificates of eligibility will be accepted. The new assessment scheme will be in place from January 2011. For more information about the new scheme, please visit the Kaplan QLTS website here or contact the course manager, Jan Tiley on 029 2045 1000.

BVC students - Please note the following:

If you have completed the BVC before the new QLTS regulations comes into force but your call dinner is not until Autumn 2010. BVC graduates who have had their call dinners confirmed by their Inns for July, October or November 2010 will be able to apply for a Certificate of Eligibility under the QLTT.

This is because graduates will have passed the BVC and had their character and suitability assessed by their Inns prior to 31 August 2010. It would therefore be disproportionate to prevent them from applying under the QLTT because they have not been able to gain a place at a call dinner prior to 31 August 2010.

Applications must be received by close of business on 31 August 2010 together with all required documentary evidence. Please contact us or the SRA if you would like more information on this.
