| How many times can I take the test? |
You can re-take the test as many times as you need to. To prepare yourself fully for the tests we recommend you purchase our Distance Learning materials and attend our Revision Days.
You must pay a registration fee of £235 + VAT whether you sit one, two, three or all four Heads with us. The registration fee allows you to purcahse distance learning materials, register for attendance on revision courses, sit and re-sit as many assessments as you wish within a 12 month period.
You must also pay a test fee of £85 + VAT per Head (and/or £210 + VAT for Head IV) each time you sit the test, including re-sits.
If you haven't passed the required heads with your 12 month period, you must pay a new registration fee.

| If I take more than one Head at a sitting and I fail one Head, do I need to retake all the Heads I sat? |
No. You only need to re-take the test(s) you failed. Before you can sit any test within the 12 month period, you must pay a further registration fee of £235 + VAT. You must also pay a test fee of £85 + VAT per Head (and/or £210 + VAT for Head IV) each time you sit the test, including re-sits.

| Can I complete the Heads over more than one sitting? |
Yes, you can. Most of the candidates choose to do that.

| What can I take into the exam? |
The exam is open book which means you can take in all your Distance Learning materials (2 x lever arch files and up to 3 textbooks). Mobile phones MUST be switched off and placed with personal belongings in the area designated by the invigilator.

| When will I get my test results? |
The test papers will be marked within 4 weeks of the exam date. They are then referred to the exam board. Results will be sent directly to candidates via post within 14 days of the exam board. Candidates can expect to receive their results 6 - 8 weeks after the test date.

| Can I get feedback if I fail? |
Yes, you can. In your fail letter we will include comments from the marker and External Examiner (where appropriate). No other feedback will be available.

| Do I have to use Kaplan Altior’s materials? |
It is not compulsory to use our materials but it is advisable. Our tests are based on our own distance learning materials so we cannot guarantee that another provider’s materials would be sufficient for candidates to pass our exam.

| Kaplan Altior’s material for Property does not cover “Leaseholds and Commonhold”, “Commercial Conveyancing and Property” and “New properties” which are contained in the text books of Robert Abbey & Mark Richards. Are these areas tested? |
We do not examine Commercial Conveyancing or Commonhold but we do expect knowledge of Leaseholds and an understanding of the issues relevant to New Properties.

| Can I spread the costs? |
At the time of booking candidates must pay the registration fee and test fee. To order Distance Learning materials, payment (including the Registration Fee) must be received by us before we can dispatch the materials and before the test date. Revision Day fees must be received before the Revision Day. We do not operate a payment plan.

| Are there any compulsory studying courses I need to do? |
No, the only compulsory element of the QLTT is to sit and pass the tests.
|
| Is there a deadline for enrolling? |
The deadline for booking is normally one week before the test date. However, places on the courses are limited, so to guarantee you get a place it is best to book and pay well in advance of the test date.

| How do I book/apply? |
You can either apply online by using the book now button and someone will contact you if we need further information from you or you can submit your booking via post. Please send the completed booking form to Jan and include your payment.

| Do I need to be proficient in English? |
Yes, you do. The written Heads and the oral Head are set and conducted in the English language and must be answered in English. A candidate who fails to satisfy the test provider that he/she possesses sufficient knowledge of the English language to practise as a solicitor in England and Wales, would not pass the test.
IELTS is an international, globally recognised English language assessment primarily used by those seeking international education and professional recognition.
A minimum level of IELTS 6.5 is recommended for the QLTT.

| What does the QLTT consist of? |
The QLTT consists of 4 different assessments or “Heads” as follows:
Head I - Property (Probate and Conveyancing)
Head II - Litigation (Civil or Criminal)
Head III - Professional Conduct and Accounts
Head IV - Common Law
The number of Heads that you will have to sit will depend on the country in which you qualified as a lawyer.
The following is a general guide:
•Head I - Scottish, American, Israeli, Nigerian, South African and EU lawyers must sit Head I.
•Head II - All UK and most Commonwealth re-qualifying lawyers are exempt from Head II, but American or EU lawyers are not.
•Head III - With the exception of Scottish Lawyers, all candidates (including English barristers) must take Head III.
•Head IV - Lawyers from civil law countries must take Head IV.

| What is the format of the test? |
Heads I - III are each 3 hours long written assessments with additional 30 minutes reading time. Head IV is an oral test and lasts for 30 minutes with additional 30 minutes reading time.

| What is the Certificate of Eligibility? |
Before you will be allowed to sit the QLTT you must obtain, from the Solicitors Regulation Authority of England and Wales, a Certificate of Eligibility (CE). The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) takes approximately 8 weeks to process applications. SRA will state the subjects a candidate is required to pass based on a candidate’s previous qualification(s) and experience. A Certificate of Eligibility is prepared by the SRA and sets out the subjects that must be passed and any work experience requirement.

| Can I book without my Certificate of Eligibility? |
Yes, you can book on to the QLTT tests and order your Distance Learning materials before you receive your Certificate of Eligibility. However, we must receive a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility before you can sit the test. You must also take your original Certificate of Eligibility with you when you sit each test.

| When can I study? |
Our Distance Learning materials are designed so candidates can study whenever and wherever they like. The Distance Learning materials are based on self study and include practice questions so you can test yourself.
|
| How many hours will it take to study the Distance Learning materials? |
It will take approximately 60 hours to study for one Head. Please note that this is just a guide as each individual is different.

| How can I pay? |

| What is the pass mark for the exams? |
To pass the Test candidates must obtain at least 50% of the available marks in each Head of the Test. For Head III, candidates must obtain 50% of the marks in each part of the paper.

| What tuition do you offer/ what is a Revision Day? |
Whilst there are no compulsory tuition or distance learning requirements for the QLTT, many students find our Distance Learning materials and Revision Days of particular use when preparing for the various Heads of the Test. You should decide whether you would benefit from these materials and this tuition.
The cost of the Distance Learning Packs are as follows:
Head I - £250.00 (No VAT)
Head II - £225.00 (No VAT)
Head III - £200.00 (No VAT)
Head IV - £200.00 (No VAT)

Revision Days are specifically designed to consolidate delegates’ knowledge and prepare them for the assessments. Whilst they involve looking at sample exam questions and model answers, they are heavily based on the Distance Learning materials. Model answers to the test questions in the Distance Learning materials will also be provided. Candidates are therefore strongly advised to purchase these materials before they attend the Revision Days so that they can get the most out of the Revision Days. The Revision Days cost £225 plus VAT each. Please note that our Revision Days are only run if there is sufficient demand.

| Is there a discount for re-sits? |
The cost of the re-sit is £85 plus VAT (£102) or £210 plus VAT (£252) for Head IV. We do not offer any discounts for the re-sits. But you may also be liable for the Registration fee. Please refer to Q1 & Q2.
