Our two week Trainee Litigation Programme is open to all trainee solicitors and is designed to expose trainees to the practice skills specified in the SRA’s requirements for the contentious seat of the training contract.
The comprehensive programme builds on the foundation of litigation knowledge gained on the LPC and the Advocacy and Communication Skills module of the PSC.
It comprises one week of tuition and experiential learning involving realistic case studies and practical learning scenarios, and one week at Kaplan Legal Advice Centre in central London where delegates will acquire actual litigation and advocacy experience.
Tuition Week
The tuition element of the programme will be based around a commercial case study, and is designed to replicate the kind of experience which a typical trainee from a commercial firm would face in a contentious seat. Delegates will also have the opportunity to undertake court visits to observe experienced practitioners at work.

Advice Centre Week
Delegates will work on a range of contentious matters, for a varied client base, under the close supervision of qualified lawyers.
This practical Advice Centre week will allow delegates the opportunity to take instructions directly from clients, prepare clients’ cases and undertake work as McKenzie friends on council tax prosecutions and other matters at the Magistrates’ Court. At the conclusion of the programme all attendees will be required to complete a portfolio of their learning experiences which is designed for the benefit of their Training Principals.
Drawing on Kaplan Altior’s expertise as a leading provider of advocacy and litigation skills training, the programme will be led by our experienced team of trainers, all of whom have extensive contentious and advocacy experience.
