Top UK sports lawyer Mark Loosemore is to run his family's specialist legal training and consulting firm after more than ten years working in sports law and business.

Mark has joined his family's company, altior Consulting & Training Ltd, as its new chief executive. The firm, set up by Mark's father, John Loosemore and fellow solicitor Robert Parsons almost 25 years ago, is a leading UK specialist in management, advocacy and skills training for lawyers and also has a thriving legal management consultancy arm. Based in Newport Road, Cardiff, altior directly employs 12 members of staff with a pool of more than 30 specialist tutors.

John Loosemore will become chairman of altior and continue to head up its consulting service and act as a course tutor. He commented: "I'm delighted that Mark has decided to join us, especially when he had so many other options available to him. His wealth of commercial and legal knowledge will prove a major asset and help us move on to the next stage in our development."

Mark qualified as a solicitor in 1996 and worked with some of the top names in sport - including tennis players Greg Rusedski and Stefan Edberg and the Football Associations of England and Wales - during his time in the sports group at Bird & Bird Solicitors. He then went on to be group commercial director of the Welsh Rugby Union either side of and during the 1999 Rugby World Cup, held in Wales.

An Oxford University Blue in tennis and football, Mark joined former ntl subsidiary Premium TV in 2000 as its legal and business affairs director. During his time at Premium TV Mark served as a director of its joint ventures with the Football League and major clubs such as Glasgow Rangers and Newcastle United, set up to exploit internet and other media rights, and he was instrumental in the successful multi-million pound restructuring of Premium TV's complex business arrangements.

He was also managing director of Premium TV (Ventures), Premium TV's sports agency business, and led the sale of Newcastle United's shirt sponsorship rights to Northern Rock Bank.

Mark intends to further develop his commercial consulting in sport, with Premium TV as a client, alongside his new role with altior.

"I've watched altior grow into one of the leading legal training and consulting providers in the UK and my father and his team have created a business to be proud of," said Mark, who is 34 and lives in Cardiff.

"We already provide training for thousands of legal professionals throughout the UK every year, and there is an excellent platform on which to build an even more substantial business in the years ahead."
